CH-2   SPECIAL SCENARIOS WITH SIBLINGS


We have discussed the ways to bond up with your sibling in previous chapter. We will now discuss certain special scenarios pertaining to siblings.

1)      IF THE SIBLING DOES NOT STAY WITH YOU


An elder sibling may have moved out for higher studies, job or after marriage to a different country, city or another house. A younger sibling may be at a boarding school. Missing them is normal but there are ways to stay connected with them:

a)      Meet for special occasions. Make it a ritual to celebrate festivals together.

b)      Do not make them feel out of place when they visit. Make them feel at home.

c)      Do not get jealous if they are pampered more when they visit. Don’t feel bad and spoil the mood. Contribute in making them feel special.

d)      Keep a connection to understand what is going on in their life. Read between the lines to see if there is anything that worries them but they are unable to share for any specific reason.

e)      Encourage them during their low period. Do not make sarcastic comments of them leaving the house in the first place.

 

2)      IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SIBLING

 Being the only child means that you have been the centre of attention and concentration of your parents till now. You are their world. By now, you must have found a friend, a companion and a sibling in your parent/s. But you know that, before long, you will be in your own world leaving a vacuum for parents. So as your need for freedom and privacy rises, you can take following steps to create a stable and contented world for your parents.

a)      Persuade your parent to resume the hobby that they have left or to commence a new one, so that their focus shifts.

b)      Let your parents to go out without you and spend more time with each other.


c)       Be independent but do not make them think that you need any less of them.  Do that slowly but surely so that they don’t miss you suddenly in their lives.

d)      You may help your parent to start a profession or vocation according to the talent they have.

e)      Let your parent plan more outings with their acquaintances and friends.

So basically with these steps, we are trying to fill the gap which may be upcoming in their life as you will be getting ready to fly in your own sky.

 We are well aware of the phrase “two sides of a coin” which imply looking at a particular situation from two different viewpoints. Here we shall discuss some such situations which are considered negative by the majority of people. But of course, there exists the positive aspect as well.
