The Meaning Of Real Freedom

The dictionary says freedom is a state of being free.

 “Free from”- constraints, restrictions, superstitions

“free to” – think, act, speak

“free to be”- whatever you desire

“Freeing yourself was one thing, claiming ownership of that freed self was another.”
― Toni Morrison, Beloved

The real freedom for India or for humanity will be when the dignity of each individual is recognized and valued. There shall be no limitations on the basis of gender, age, caste, choices and preferences. The day when the people will be more involved in their own lives rather than judging others for not behaving the way they want shall provide the independence to the views of beings.

People feel delighted to be in command; however, they forget that any rights come with responsibilities. Actual freedom will be when it is realized and rewarded. When people don’t misuse other people for their personal slight benefits, when the worth of each life- be it human, flora or fauna is understood and treasured.

Authentic liberty is not in adopting the ritual and style of the culture which is new-fangled but appealing. Freedom is in the roots. Independence will be when you are proud to follow your philosophy while spreading your wings, when you can fly high in the sky with feet on the ground. One shall not be embarrassed to follow their customs, no matter how unique they are. No one shall be judged to do so either.

You are independent in the rightest sense when your
ideas and thoughts are not waiting validation from someone. When you can be free to choose your life, without someone telling you whether you are permitted or capable to do so.

Your freedom does not question when you are involved in
kindness or humanity. You are not answerable to anyone if your heart is at peace after the act. Try doing something nice for someone without any expectations in return. You will feel a different type of contentment in your heart, which gives you the true meaning of being alive.

Let’s break the misconception surrounding freedom. It is not following the trends blindly, whether you are convinced or not, it is not distancing from your culture for the sake of being called modern.

Freedom does not lie in clothes or lifestyle. It lies in thoughts, ideas, behavior and futuristic steps.

“When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.”
― Ralph Ellison, Invisible Man
