RELATIONSHIP WITH SIBLINGS

Ch-1 THE SPECIAL BOND OF SIBLINGS

“Siblings, together as friends, ready to face whatever life sends”

All of us have a love-hate relationship with our siblings. Having somebody around all the time, sharing your room, stuff and sometimes clothes can be annoying at times. But your sibling is the first friend you get for life.

Be it elder-younger, one or many, brother or sister, but your sibling will always be your partner-in-crime and your best secret keeper (of course with a bribe). They are the ones who help you enhance the skills of convincing and manipulation. They can save you from the scolding of the parents and can fight the world for you.

The arguments and general fights are also common among siblings. It’s the duty of siblings to tease each other. The family feels something missing if they are not irritating each other. Parents happen to be the ineffective referee in their conflict.

That’s a sibling.

Here are a few ways to perk up the bond with your siblings:-

1)      Give them respect and privacy, just as you expect from them.

2)      There may a dissimilarity of outlook, but never let things affect your connection. End the dispute and move on.

3)      Never bring it to your friends if you have any disparity with your siblings. You may like to share your frustration with friends, but it’s always better to keep things within the family and sort it soon.

4)      Do not insult or embarrass your siblings in front of your friends or other family members. Sometimes it may affect the self-esteem of the person. So try to keep banter up to a limit.

5)      Advocate choices or opinions of your siblings in front of parents to build a strong connection.

6)      Spend time alone with them to talk about their life.

7)      Participate in their special occasions. Prioritize them.

8)      Find a hobby or an activity to do together.

9)      Encourage and motivate each other.

10)  If your sibling seems annoyed or jealous, try to find the reason and the solution. Sometimes competition between siblings may not be healthy.

11)  Even in the worst of fights, never involve your parents and never hurt each other to the extent of non-repair. Some words or actions stay for lifetime. Be cautious in your action and reaction.

12)  If you have a younger sibling, do not expect the intellect or maturity of your age from them. In fact re-live your childhood with them. Cherish their childhood; make it pleasant for them before it’s gone. Everyone grows up. Try to be someone they can admire and want to be like.

13)  If you have an older sibling, do not look forward to their level of liberty. You will grow up and reach their age soon. You can learn from their lessons and be a smarter grown up.

Before long, you will all be busy in your own lives and will not be able to spend all the time together which will surely be missed by you. Only reminiscences of these times will stay. The connection could still be felt by siblings from far away if it’s strong.

Hoping that the above said tips will help you sustain a special bond with your sibling and you have a happy childhood and memorable growing up years.  However if face any dilemma following something, or you need to discuss any point in detail, feel free to connect. We are always there for you.

Happy journey!!
