The solo trip of an Indian woman

"When your heart is pure and intention is sincere, the Almighty has a way of making sure that everything works out for you".

Parul experienced this quote in real life. When she decided to discuss yet again with Keshav, he could comprehend the need of her relaxation. He immediately agreed as well as began to plan a safe and fulfilling vacation for his wife. Nothing could be more thrilling for her. She was clear on her necessities and this helped them find a grand place.  Reservations were done and time to commence the journey.

The excitement turned into nervousness on thought of travelling 7 hours alone. But children reminded her of the confidence. The thought of leaving children was making her sad too. It is not easy to leave family to go to have fun, but this time, she was unapologetic about putting herself first.

Parul boarded the bus at 4am. Family dropped her at the bus station. The loving husband also prepared a sandwich for her to have while on the way. Since there was strict instruction by the in-laws,  not to eat anything from outside during the drive. Try not to get off the bus if possible.

As she entered the sleeper bus, it was dim light and all doors were closed. She sat on her berth and shut the slider. It was a comfortable and cozy place. She settled, spread her blanket and dozed off. After a couple of hours, she was ready to start the day. The bus halted for a few minutes, she got down to freshen up, and ate her sandwich sitting inside looking through the window to big green farm lands.

The bus started and after another travel of around 3 hours, she got off to board the second mode of transport. This was a “tuktuk” public auto. After covering a distance of almost 15 kilometers, she had to look for second public transport which was effortless. The driver dropped her to the point where she had to board the cab to the final destination. This was somewhat exhausting yet exhilarating.

As she reached the resort, the location made her forget her struggle to reach there. The place was so calming and peaceful. After checking in, she planned all the activities she wanted to take part in.

This place was an Ayurvedic and Yoga Retreat. A number of yoga sessions, meditation classes, spa and massages were a part of the package. The food provided was “satvik” which means pure vegetarian without onion, and garlic.

The food, the air, the peace and of course the relaxing spa had a huge outcome on her. Her skin got radiant in a day; she was able to look at positives and learnt so much more about the body and importance of small things during the insightful sessions.

She did miss the family, but was getting prepared to show them another side of hers after returning. On the other hand, the family was missing her more. She was overwhelmed when they said so.

The two days passed. A twist came when the return bus got cancelled. It was bit frightening for her, but then came the super hero who always protected her. The husband offered to come and pick her up from the resort and she readily agreed. She was unable to control the excitement of meeting them again. She was glad that she doesn’t have to wait till midnight to see them again. This was the maximum that a mother and a wife can stay away from her family I guess!

She had a fruitful stay. She learnt or let’s say, revised her lessons.

~ Not to rush

~ Not to push

~ take one thing at a time

~ You can’t control everything

~ You are a priority-love yourself

~ It’s okay not to feel okay etc.

Keshav and children were surprised to see the tremendous change in Parul. She was energetic, calm and happy. Her friends and acquaintances were unable to believe that she could travel alone. Some were jealous while some were inspired. But Parul was glad that she could do something “unusual”.

  1. Congratulations on your solo trip! I would never have the stomach for it, personally. I hate travelling, let alone being alone while doing so.
